Paavo Järvi opens his celebratory 10th anniversary season with the return of Kathleen Battle, the internationally acclaimed Ohio-born soprano whose voice has been likened to “the ethereal beauty of winter moonlight” and described as “one of the very few most beautiful in the world.” She’ll convey the pure poetry and heart-on-sleeve emotion of music by Richard Strauss in a program that also includes Strauss’ bold “Zarathustra,” of 2001: A Space Odyssey fame, and irresistible music from the opera Der Rosenkavalier (“The Knight of the Rose”). A splendid start to a season of celebration!
