  CSO Backstage Workshops

CSO Backstage Workshops are designed to introduce students in grades 7-12 to a variety of career opportunities in classical music. Many times, the onstage career opportunities in classical music are obvious, yet there are many exciting behind-the-scenes careers that may not be so obvious, such as composing, concert production, marketing, finance, and public relations. Presenters include CSO staff, musicians and other professionals. Workshops begin at 5:30p at Music Hall and include the workshop followed by a light dinner and 2 complimentary tickets to the evenings CSO concert.  Additional tickets are available at a reduced rate.

Saturday, November 2, 2013 – Exploring Non-Performance Music Majors
So you love music but aren’t sure that you want to perform as a career? Even if you do want to perform a little, having other ways to market yourself is very important! Come find out about careers in music that put your musical skills to the test, but don’t require you stepping onto a stage to perform every night. We will explore options in Music Education, Arts Administration, and more!  This is the perfect workshop to expand your horizons about future possibilities.

Saturday, February 1, 2014 – CSO “On the Air” – Radio & Recording Careers
You’re probably aware as you listen to the radio, a CD, or an MP3 that there must be jobs in music for people who like to work with putting sounds together. We’ll have a few of those careers represented as we welcome on-air talent and recording engineers to the career conversation. Find out how these professionals are trained and where they work.

Saturday, March 15, 2014 – Artistic Planning and Season Design
Every time you come to a concert, you see great artists performing great repertoire. Who picks the music? How are the guest artists selected? And how do we figure out what audiences want to hear and what will keep them coming back? All these questions and more will be answered when we talk to the people responsible for planning the seasons for the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra.

Saturday, April 12, 2014 – The Audition Workshop
CSYO Conductor Will White and others will talk about what exactly is needed to audition for groups like the CSYO and also for college auditions. Topics we'll explore include: What are they listening for? How should I prepare? What if I get nervous? Is there a better way to practice? Come find out what all the insiders and experts know about how to have the best audition possible

To reserve your spot for a workshop,
please call the CSO Box Office at 513.381.3300.
